Under the guidance of new coach, Mike Mitchell, WTC's cage squad finished fifth in the WJCAC race with a 9-7 ledger and earned a berth in the Region V tournament in Brownwood. A victory over arch-rival Howard College was perhaps the most cherished of the nine wins. The Hawks were ranked 16th in the nation and sitting atop the loop with an impressive 12-2 mark. The score? Remember 96-94? WTC also put away Amarillo at home in what many consider an upset. Sporting the conference's leading scorer, Western did the Badgers in, 88-78. In another big meeting, Clarendon squeaked by WTC, 64-63, with a desperation shot at the buzzer. ln non-conference play, WTC posted a 12-2 record. At the Grayson County Tourney, the Blue and Green clipped Connors State and Seminole IC, but fell in the championship finals to Dallas Eastfield, 72-71. At the three-team Temple Tournament, the Westerns put both opponents away. Other victories included two each from three lV'sg LCC, McMurry, and Angelo State. In the first round of the regional contest, WTC met second-seeded Hill County. 'lm , 67
