WPCC enters Granite event The men's basketball team from Western Piedmont Com- munity College has been selected to represent Morganton in the 1976 Granite Falls Christmas Tournament' The WPCC teamis a member of the Industrial' League spon- sured by the Morganton Recreation Department under the supervision of recreation director Gary Leonhardt. Coached by Richard Morgan of WPCC and Jessie Williamson of Western Carolina Center, the Pioneers will play their first game on Monday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. at Shuford Recreation Center in Granite Falls. Six WPCC players from the nucleus of the club, with the addition of eight all-stars from other clubs in the Morganton Industrial League. Tri-captains Steve Harbison, Al Steiner and Don Richardson, along with Tony Powell, Greg Jablonski and Don Poteat, form the Pioneer segmentof the team. Joining them are Kenny Ward, R.W. Dale, and Jack Ramsey from Broughton, Herman Booker and Jimmy Powell from Great- Lakes Carbon, Ron Michaux from City of Morganton, P.P. Powell and Frank Gardin from Western Carolina Center and Jim Patton from Inmont. Coaches Morgan and Williamson will start Steiner and either Tony or Jimmy Powell at the posts, Jablonski and Ward at the wings and Gardin at the point. However, all the star- studded team should see action in an effort to bring the title to the city of Morganton, coach Morgan commented. The pre-tournament favorite is Tri-City of Forest City, which won the tournament last year. If WPCC gets past the opening game it will play the winner of the Tri-City-Hickory game on Tuesday at 8 p.m. V ' 'flag df ,,..
