Letters LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Sir: I think it's about time they quit persecuting us drunks. Why everybody knows, weire sick and only drinking so as not to be pained. For the 40 years I been drinking 'round Morganton I'm ashamed to tell you how miserable people've been about it. It's high time the city fathers was concerned with our problem. It ainit like we wasn't prominent citizens, especially Saturday and Sunday mornings. Dear Editor: We represent the many men who favor the ERA Amendment. To a man we are the losers in paying alimony and child support. Why should we pay? Passage of the ERA will lift the yoke from our necks. Thanks, The Oppressed Sex Where There Is More To Radio 1430 WMNC MORGANTON 92 WMNC-F M Dear Editor: The only security in these troubled times of epidemic divorces we women have is knowing we can stay home and raise our children, even if the family should otherwise split-up. Why shouldnit the bums that shirk their other responsibilities have to support us? Sincerely, The Security Sisters Dear Editor: I am a disabled veteran and I really hate the dirty card-burning cowards that got Presidential pardon. Iim going to school on the GI Bill and will keep going 'cause there's no jobs outside and I can manage on what the government sends me for going to school. Sincerely, Lyncher Dear Editor: c There haint' no respect of-a-day or of-a-nite for good ole boys no more, except Billy Carter. We git hassled at the places we gather for a little beer-drinking and card-playing. But Billy don't - even when you see the dice roll on TV. If we race after the first tire truck to help out our local volunteer fire department we git catcalls or fist-shaking from the public. Hit's just a shame what kinda abuse the good ole boys gotta take. Deesgusted Not Red Neck Dear Editor: I am sick and tired of the way this town does not provide for single people. There is no place to go, no decent eating place, and no way to meet others. I do not intend to get married, but must I always be an outcast in this town? Signed, Single Sally 133

Variety Vacationland North Carolina is frequently touted as the variety vacation land. This theme has a strong reflection in the WPCC activities curriculum. Physical fitness and structured leisure are aimed at on the campus. One can become a well-rounded sports person by conscientiously pursuing, in only two short years, these activities. The more nature-minded can indulge in the courses: Fit Trek, Mountaineering, Basic or Advanced Canoeing and Bicycling. The social set can perfect skills for competing on the putting greens in Beginning or Intermediate Golf and prepare to leap the net with winning grace in Tennis. If, perchance, your skills in horseback riding were overlooked in childhood, one can recapture that opportunity by enrolling in an Equitation course. There is also the lure of Beginner's Swimming for water babies. The more sedate or meditative nature lover can become an accomplished spring wildflower appreciator and spend a weekend in the pursuit, somewhat like Stalking the Wild Asparagus. In other words we are offered activities that nearly challenge the Outward Bound School. We certainly adhere to the western tradition of working hard at our leisure! 134 , , 'gifwix . 1 : 4r.Yl,.,!,-mg. , ,wi H 'Q .xl ..,.v . .M i,::,:..x...:n Z W-Xu mx Nu... .,,.:Zi.!tA.f::.l..i-It 3.4. til...-'gil 7'9 -1 lf V ' ' wg.l5.fM --1 iff,- ...J .. -Y ,.-f l,,,. i., ,, V45 4 H+:-,,,!,..',ggm,.,..,i Q- U - -, m4,'.f1,...4y i q 4 ,gl .1 yr.. fy M5 .'
