President Lieuallen Dear OCE Students, It is the privilege ofthe college president to write a few paragraphs to be recorded in the Grove expres- sing his greetings and good wishes especially to the graduating seniors but to all members of the student body. Contemplating what might be Written, I recalled that almost exactly fifteen years ago I first visited this campus and became a member of the College faculty. During these fifteen years, the first nine as Registrar, I learned to love the College and the setting in which it resides. I have seen OCE grow from less than 300 students to its present enrollment of nearly 1500. During those fifteen years the faculty more than tripled in numbers and improved vastly in training and experience. The Library, two additions to the Campus School, swimming pool, Maaske Hall, Music Building, Student Center, and now the new dormitory were constructed. And, most impor- tant of all, the curriculurns were expanded to include liberal arts degrees, secondary teacher education, and grad- uate programs. It is a temptation to reflect on those fifteen years as golden years and to speculate that the future will be anti-climactic. Better judgment, however, cautions me that the past is merely prologue. Now students, soon as graduates, you will help to create a future vastly more exciting and challenging than the past fifteen years. I face that promise with you - and I face it with eagerness and with excitement. R. E. LIEUALLEN President N , E
