,lu- . Z9. 0. 8. 9? 196263 This book is a resume of the first year of operation at the Western Ohio Educational Founda- tion located in Celina, Ohio. The college began functioning in the fall of 1962 offering vari- ous courses Of study in Liberal Arts, Pre-Engineering, Pre-Law, Education, and Business Ad- ministration. The first year was considered a success by the students, faculty and administra- tion. Everyone associated with the school joins collectively in the hope that it will grow and prosper. ; 529mm: -,. - . mmsrmm WESTERN U WHICH? m Wager J CSXazyier - Wesz'ofenf szfecior e 710?. 7 Our initial year at W.O.E.F. would not have been so productive without the conscientious guidance of our esteemed director. In recognition of an amiable, ever-hclpful, and always considerate resident director, this book is dedicated to Roger Stauffer by the entire student en- rollment of the Western Educational Foundation. However, $5,000 was allocated to the purchase of books which will be available to the stu- dents next fall. The library has been used a great deal for study. Shown in above picture are co- librarians Carol Davis and Phyllis Deitsch. 730 0A9 fore The Cottage Bookstore, under the able operation of Mrs. Belknap and Mrs. Schelich, has been a great help to the stu- dents of W.O.E.F. Located adjacent to the school, it offers an ample supply of reference books, extracurricular reading material, and an abundance of school associated articles such as sweatshirts, bookcovers, etc. The bookstore has grown rapidly since its opening and is continuing to do so. 9711090 013 uaf yd? 37300122 The small room in the northwest corner of the sec- ond floor is used to house our audio-visual aids equip- ment and tape recorders. Z0 0. 6. :7 1b Wefrospecf A few short months ago, a collegiate atmosphere came to Celina, Ohio. It was not a spontaneously instituted idea, but was the result of careful planning by civic leaders, educators, and futute-mirtded citizens of Auglaize. Darke, Mercer and Van Wert Counties. The School of which we are now a part was born by many and reflects their interest and labors. There had previously been night classes of college accreditation offered at the Ce- lina High School by Ohio Northern University to interested area adults, but a greater need was seen for more adequate facilities and a broader scope of subjects. From this assertion, W.O.E.F. was begotten. A site, the primary need of the planners, was secured through a generous agreement with the Celina Insurance Group, who leased their old business building to the Board of Trustees. Ohio Northern University provided the professors and accreditation. Businesses and residents of the four-county area were called upon to make donations towards the promotion of the college. The original goal of $15, 000 was changed to $25, 000 which was surprisingly surpassed by an end result of $50, 000. This was an example of the in- dustriousness of the civic-minded people of the area. After many months of work and frustration, the only remaining factor was the enroll- ment of the college. This problem was solved when a total of 285 students enrolled for the fall quarter; 283 for the winter quarter; and, 252 for the spring quarter. Courses in liberal arts, pte-engineering, pre;law, elementary and secondary educa- tion and business administration are offered at the college. A $20. 000 biology lab is being installed to provide more adequate facilities in the science area. It would be an impossible task to set forth on this page the names of the many per- sons responsible for the success of the college, so it shall be regarded as a community project with outlying villages and towns assisting strenuously. Everyone connected with W. O. E.F. is in unanimous agreement that the college will undoubtedly continue to enlarge, continue to meet the rising needs of a college educa- tion. and continue to turn out better citizens in the area. 97 may 75am We wish to express our sincere appreciation to photographer Jim Osborne for graciously giving his time and assistance in obtaining the pictures shown in this yearbook. We would also like to thank the New Idea Corporation for the film it generously furnished. Without these generous contributions, the publication of this yearbook would not have been possible.
