Honor Society Initiutes New Members The Honor Society initiated its new members in a formal ceremony on April 26, 1968. Each of the outgoing officers made speeches on the following topics: EDUCATION, BEARER OF THE TORCH, SCHOLARSHIP, LEADERSHIP CHARACTER, CITIZENSHIP, AND SERVICE. A program was presented by the Warrior band with special musical numbers. The initiates sat in front of the stage as the officers made speeches. The following eighth graders were initiated to be the acting mem- bers in the ninth grade. G. Adkins, G. Allen, J. Bergman, N. Brock. J. Cobbs, J. Cundith, K. Guthrie, S. Haley, D. House, D. Lanoy, J. Maloy, J. Marcotte, B. Marek, J. Maxwell, S. McEachern, C. Naylor, M. Nelson, C. Newmann, R. Nichols, N. Northcutt, D. Osborne, D. Parr, D. Paulsen, N. Perry, G. Dale, J. Derebery, D. Dryden, S. English, K. Evans, T. Gagnon, J. Potts, J. Prentice, G. Reeves, J. Riggs, G. Rollins, C. Scaramucci, T. Schwartz, C. Shell, S. Shirky, D. Slease, K. Staples, R. Stark, G. Tiffany, B. Thomas, L. White, J. Wickersham, C. Wilson, and G. Wilson. Mr. Leon John, counselor, gave each initiate his certificate of membership, pins and mem- bership cards. M sat Mudge, .M The outstanding band members and special band Mr. David Price directed the concert band in many popular songs, but the awards are announced each yea' ff the Spring highlight of the concert was their winning contest numbers, Fairest of the Omen' Fair, Chant and Jubilo, and 'Medieval Story. Spring Musical Concert Featured Contest Music Mrs. Jeannette Miller lead the seventh grade mixed chorus through a very happy song, Lucky Little Cricket. The Spring Concert each year is presented jointly by the Chorus Department and the Band. Both groups feature their contest music. The speech department also worked with them for special presentations. Six eighth graders made a 1 fSuperiorj rating on their musical entry at Tri-State Musical Festival. They are Gary Hayes, trombone, Gary Coburn, drums, Gail Isernhagen, saxophone, Nancy Perry, French horn, Nancy Northcutt, clarinet, and Denise Parr, flute. The Western Oaks Band won a Superior rating at Tri-State Music Festival in Enid, Oklahoma, plus several trophies at other con tests. lriebskzllcf Wulf Imiiwati

Faculty Plays Basketball Against Students Each year the faculty members play basketball against the students. The men play against the arsity to help earn money for the Pep Club, and the other one is a benefit game with the P.T.A. mothers to help them out. Besides being a good profit making activity, it is a lot of fun for both the students and the faculty. Cheerleaders are important in any game. A P.T.A. member chases Mrs. Mrs, Wert was having as much fun as Epperly as she tries to dribble these boys who lead cheers. away. Mr. George Keely offered his coaching talents to the P.T.A. mothers, and tried to coach them to victory fThey lost., Mr Whatley, referee, dodges as Mr, Buller and Mrs. try to get the ball. Mrs. Hogan, who played high school basket- ball, gets ready to catch the ball after a free throw. Turner 46 Mr. Jim Harder coached the women.
