Nancy Northcutt and Arlene Dawes wait until Donald Beard ,Hnishes speaking to Over the PIA. System. the student body. The Stuco candidates nomination speeches were made on 89er 's Day. Student Council Officers lnituted At Awards Assembly The Awards Assembly is held each year just before the close of school. At this time many different awards are presented to deserving students. Also the Student Council officers for the following year are initiated. The initiation of the new Student Council ofjicers was held during the annual Awards Assembly. To the left sit Eddie Hill, treasurer, Shelli Beaver, secretary, Pat Collier, vice-president, and Larry White, president. The outgoing president, Brad Yarbrough, introduced them. Danny Miller and Ardith Goodlin were presented the AMERICAN LEGION A WARD at the Awards Assembly. Mr. Leon John made the presentation. This award goes to the most outstanding, all-around ninth grade boy and girl. 43 The following officers were elected to serve the Student Body John Hull, on the left, was elected treasurer, but when he found that he was going to move, Eddie Hill became the new treasurer. Next are Shelli Beaver, Pat Collier, and Larry White.

Pioneer costumes were worn by almost all Warriors on 89er s Mrs. McGaughy 's ninth grade homeroom was one of the winn Day Thzs scene is in the cafeteria at lunch time ing rooms for the most authentic decorations. Warriors Pay Tribute to Pioneers A boy and girl from each grade are chosen as winners zn the costume contest. From left to right are Robert Stonebraker and Linda Walker 9th grade winners, Roger Marsh and Jennifer Derebery 8th grade winners and Ray Winkler and Amy Prassel, 89er's Day is a time for fun for the Warriors, but the activities are centered around a part of History that is dear to ali Oklahomans - The Great Land Rush of 1889. Homerooms are decorated in OId West style and students dress as some ofthe Spirit of the Pioneers. A little more on the serious side fbut not muchj was a reenact- ment of the Oklahoma Land Run when the 89er 's came to Oklahoma. Mr. Winters, Mrs. Barnett, Mrs. Keely, and Mr. Harder represented the Sooners W ...ct 89er's did, in hopes that they may capture

M sat Mudge, .M The outstanding band members and special band Mr. David Price directed the concert band in many popular songs, but the awards are announced each yea' ff the Spring highlight of the concert was their winning contest numbers, Fairest of the Omen' Fair, Chant and Jubilo, and 'Medieval Story. Spring Musical Concert Featured Contest Music Mrs. Jeannette Miller lead the seventh grade mixed chorus through a very happy song, Lucky Little Cricket. The Spring Concert each year is presented jointly by the Chorus Department and the Band. Both groups feature their contest music. The speech department also worked with them for special presentations. Six eighth graders made a 1 fSuperiorj rating on their musical entry at Tri-State Musical Festival. They are Gary Hayes, trombone, Gary Coburn, drums, Gail Isernhagen, saxophone, Nancy Perry, French horn, Nancy Northcutt, clarinet, and Denise Parr, flute. The Western Oaks Band won a Superior rating at Tri-State Music Festival in Enid, Oklahoma, plus several trophies at other con tests. lriebskzllcf Wulf Imiiwati
