For this reason, Western Oaks students are provided with the best teachers and facilities the school system can provide. Seventh graders take either mathematics or modern math, according to their mathematical ability, and modern math and composite math are offered to eighth graders. Ninth graders begin in a new mathematical system as they take algebra in their last year at Western Oaks. Composite math is also offered to freshmen. All eighth graders take General Science, which introduces them to the various phases of science. Ninth graders are given the opportunity to choose between General Science, Earth Science, and Biology, but the latter is usually restricted to accelerated students because Biology is a regular tenth grade subject.
