Mr. Leon John, Western Oak's Counselor, is one of the best liked teachers in the school. He serves as a friend and guide to all students as he seeks to place them in classes where they will be happy. He makes himself available to counsel students who are in scholastic trouble to .see if they need extra help or need to change a class. Mr. John, who has been teaching for 30 years, graduated from Oklahoma University in 1936 and was awarded a Master's Degree from Oklahoma University in 1941. The only time he left teaching was during the war when he worked for the army doing defense work in Wichita, Kansas. For three years he was a rural teacher in Southwestern Oklahoma. For the next 10 years he was a combination high school principal and history teacher in the same area. For the last seventeen years he served as a high school principal in three different schools.
