I hope that all of the other new people on the campus hue felt the same warm hospitality. I want to commend the students on the excellent line services they rendered the institution and the community. I have been greatuly impressed by the seriousness of the students of the college. She has been active in school organizations since her sophomore days. She has been a member of or now belongs to Cardinal Key, Home Economics Club, House Committee, Wo- men's Athletic Association, Westernettes and Lead- ership Conference. She is secretary of Kappa Delta Phi and in her senior year is Dormitory Procter. Betty can especially point with pride to an outstand- ing scholastic average. W .447- 6, os '90 CURTIS COLLINS Curtis from Cleveland, '1fexas, is a major in Education. He has been limited in the activities in which he could be active due to the fact that he works. Despite the fact that he is a father, he has still found time for participation in the International Relations Club and Sigma Tau Delta. His outstand- ing contribution has been in the campus village where he has been active as a member of the Village Coun- cil. Curt is also past vice-president of Blue Key. ' 5 x90 WILLIAM FULLER Bill, from Irvington, Illinois, is a history major. He has been limited in his activities due to the fact that while he has been in college he has been a mem- ber of the Silver City Police Department. This has not prevented him from making his mark scholasti- cally with an extremely high average. His history in- terest Ied him to quite an active part in the Inter- national Relations Club where for two years he was vice-president. RUSSELL DUNCAN Russ, from Los Angeles, California, is a major in history. Russ has been active in a variety of campus organizations, including Alpha Psi Omega, Interna- tional Relations Club, Kappa Delta Pi, Playmakers, Public Relations, Vagrant Winds and the Weste'rner. He is past editor of the Mustang, past secretary for Blue Key, president of the junior class, and is now president of Sigma Tau Delta. ' EDNA RUTH HAMBLEN Edna Ruth, from Hobbs, New Mexico, is a major in music. A hard and loyal worker, Edna Ruth is a member of the band, Cardinal Key, Chorus Music Educators National Conference, Playmakers, XVomen's Sextette, Future Teachers of America and Leadership Conference, and at one time she was a member of the Aqua Parade, Student Council and the Symphony orchestra. She is president of Alpha Psi Omega. vice-president of the senior class, and was also vice-president in her junior year. She was busi- ness manager of the Wfesterner and Homecoming chairman for 1951. 6 , os f' .HQ in r H 60 BETTY HUXTABLE Betty, from Deming, New Mexico, is a major in Commerce. Her activities consist of membership in the band, Cardinal Key, Home Economics Club, symphony orchestra, Future Teachers of America, Leadership Conference, and Westernettes. Her out- standing contributions to the college have been maina ly through her class activities for which she held the honor of secretary during her sophomore and senior years, Student Council representative her junior year, and through the Women's Athletic Association, where she has been a Wfestern representative in girls sports and this year is the vice-president of the or- ganization. v 'S x00 JIM POWELL Jim, from Seminole, Texas, is a major in phy- sical education. He has devoted most of his service to Western's Football team where he was All Con- ference in 1951. He was also on the track squad and is a member of the Club. For three years, jim has been a reporter on the Mustang and during his sophomore year was elected joe College. Dur- ing his senior year, he was made a member of Blue Key. EVELYN JOHNSON Evelyn, from Silver City, New Mexico, is a major in history and elementary education. She is president of Cardinal Key, vice-president of Kappa Delta Pi and editor of Vagrant Winds, campus liter- ary publication. She was past president of Sigma Tau Delta, and holds membership in the Leadership Conference and the Future Teachers of America. Evelynlis one of the top students, boasting an almost perfect scholarship average. V0 .fr Y fi . B1 MARY SCHADEL Mary, from Silver City, New Mexico, is a major in Commerce and home economics. Mary's activities are many including Aqua Parade, band, chorus, symphony orchestra, Future Teachers of America, Women's Sextette, and Leadership Conference. She is a past president of the Home Economics Club, past vice-president of the Music Educators National Conference, and is now secretary of Cardinal Key and treasurer of Kappa Delta Pi. 6, Os '10 JIM SMITH jim, from Rochester, Indiana, is a major in physical education. jim has made a name' for himself in service to the school as well as in the field of ath- letics. In the latter, he is the only four-sport letterman in the school's history. jim has lettered in basketball, track, golf, and football. He was president of the sophomore class. At present he has followed up his fine record as secretary of the student body, this year as president of the same organization. He is also president of Blue Key and a member of the Club. Easy on the eyes on or off the field, Wfestern was justly proud of the three girls who gave so much of their time to add just the right amount of collegiate dash and color to the half time ceremonies. Led by Charlie Wfellborn the girls worked out smoothly executed patterns. Newcomers to the band leader per- fection were Nathalia Hawk and Kathi Hutchins.
