Ag as waoaw-.wsu-,raw-sf-sasasssessassmf-mn uwhhcaamhhhawwswshwhwaawawt-g,' THE MAGUEY guoabssseshesaswbswaassaaiasaesesasafehxlsq 5 .v , .if - 5' uGahvi'absQ-avaeawasas-sGaQ:Mwaf4'bs-a'D fit 5 . ,Q 5 A Faculty Meeting -9 , 5 One bright day Dr. Bowden called a special meeting of the faculty to 5' discuss the question of allowing the student of the New Mexico State ,Q 5 Teachers' College to eat lollipops. A heated argument ensued from exactly Q2- 5 half-past three until a quarter after seven, when it was broken up by Mrs. .9 Mickelson, who knocked on the door and said that her husband had better ,Q E come right home, because she wasn't going to wait supper for him another 3 minute. fy Now the procedure of such an important occasion runs something like 5- this: 5 5 The faculty assembles in a body in the Corridor of Light Hall, and at Q 5 exactly thirty minutes after three makes a mad dash for Dr. Bower's room .V 5 and arranges itself in orderly rows. Ig Drl Bowden seats himself with that admirable ease of his, and, after 3. eyeing the best-looking faculty in six states, opens the meeting. Ladies and gentlemen, he says, a very serious condition confronts us. J' The faculty looks surprised. 5 Q It is a situation, Dr. Bowden continues, which demands our im- 5 mediate attention. Something must be done at once and that is the put- S 5 pose of this meeting. I have let the matter slide entirely too long as it is, jg: 5- but I have been too busy to handle it until now. Q 5 The faculty grows uneasy and begins to squirm. No one knows what g S their superior is hitting at. 5' f I have decided to present facts to you today, Prexy goes on. In 5' :gi brief, this is what I wish you to consider. The students at this college are Ki .lg consuming too many lollipopsf' .9 ,Q The faculty is shocked by this announcement but settles itself to thought- f 5 fully weigh the facts in the case. Q 5 From a questionaire which I circulated among the student body I 5' was able to gather this data. Last year there were 1,728 lollipops eaten by :S the students of this institution and this year there is an alarming increase J- ? to the amount of -49985. I have found that last year 64 people indulged 3 5 in the luxury and that at the present the number has risen to 98. This means, ladies and gentlemen, that each student of that ninety-eight is spend- ing twice as much money on lollipops as he did last year. Formerly he Wink Wh g spent 55150, now he spends 32.25. If this situation continues as it is- if ,Q the student doubling his consumption of lollipops. as each year passes-in 5' 3 ten years he will spend 351.00 That is the point I wish to consider. f Dr. Bowden looks expectantly at the faculty. Everyone is waiting for 5' S someone else to break the ice. Finally Dr. Mickelson rises to his feet. ii: 5 I don't see anything wrong with lollipops particularly, he says. My fi: f janet likes 'em. Then he resumes his seat. if A' If you will permit me to hazard an opinion, Mr. Kibby ventures, 5 5 turning red, I am inclined to believe that eating lollipops makes the girls .92 Q in this school a trifle stuck up. He stops there. Mrs. Rose begins to Q 6' wonder what girl would have the nerve to turn a nice young man like Mr. jg Kibby down. S Q On the contrary, Mr. Kibby, Dr. Caldwell says in that easy polite ij . way of his, I think it makes them much sweeter. Then he sits down. g 5 Atta boy, Doc. S 'Tm almost sure that it makes the kids here more stuck on each other, i 5 5' g CQHHCQMZQQQGQMQQHHGQHMMQBQCQQQ QMQMCQ' Vekhgbhhhhhiahgbhhhhhhhhkh Mhhhkhhhfehkhhhhhhhkb Page Ten
