Students move laboratory equipment from the old building into a waiting truck. Many volunteered their time to transport material to the new campus. 32 January 3'lst will stand out as a special day in the minds of many Nebraska Western students. This was the day students said good- by to the half-century-old building which had formally housed Scotts- bluff College, and stepped through the doors of the new, circular 52,700,000 Nebraska Western Col- lege. On moving clay, some students operated trucks between the old building and the new campus, while others helped to load and unload equipment. The work was hard and the hours long, but everyone agrees it was worth every minute of work. Rita Stahl and Bev Nichols assist the skeleton through the door of the old building. He now may be found at home in the new laboratory. M-Day Successful me Students get an early start on moving clay by clearing library materials and equipment from the old annex Silence surrounds the old building, and moving day comes to a close as Dr. Ptacek locks the doors for the last time. Farewell Rickity Old Building Bev Nichols We'll miss you, clear old college, as we move to the new from the old. We'll miss your wasps in summer and radiators that quit when it's cold. We'll miss your battle-scarred old desks and cracks on plaster halls, We'll miss your one o'clock serenade when the chorus sings through the walls We'll miss your empty coke machines and candy that won't come out, We'll miss your floors that creak and cry when any soul trudges about. We'll miss our poker in the lounge and the money we lost and bet, We'll miss your lockers that shut and stuck, and the books that are in them yet We'll miss our teacher's frantic looks when they had twenty chairs too few, We'll miss looking out windows in lecture halls and the fun in row fifty-two. We'll miss our football on your lawn and your mudholes and signs of decays, We'll miss your trusty parking lot-we were often trapped there for days. We'll miss your drafty corners and your fountains that don't work We'll miss your bannisters that fall, your every nasty quirk. Yes, we'll miss you dear old college, where we have gone so long, We'll miss you for a little while, but I promise, not for long!!! P.S. Amen! Student Action Committee See Plans Become Reality As While looking through the fac- ulty offices, we find Paula Wells hard at work. On Monday morning, February 3rd, the plans ofthe Student Action Committee became a reality as students began attending classes in the new college. The Action Committee, formed in March of 1965, consisted of'stu- dents from the junior college, co- ordinated by the faculty. They began plans which have led to our new campus. Parades and booster trips helped to promote the plans for a cbunty college and, by April of 1966, plans for a new campus were completed. After voters approved a 31,700,000 bond issue, ground was broken for the new college. Construction ran ahead of schedule during the entire building period, which enabled us to move into the new building at the beginning of the second semester of this school year, 1968-1969. Weekend Highlighted with Concert by Serendipity Singers Ads' -F and introducing FRANK HALL 38 x Student Council Brings Name Band to Entertain at Spring ' l The Downbeats from Kansas City give their all in sound display inside a blue-green clam at the Spring formal. Upon entering the gym, couples found themselves transformed into an underwater world by decorations done in a sea motif. Judy Hamburg and her date Bob Bubak rest in candlelight at fringed tables beneath a ceiling of twisted crepe paper. May 10 marked the day of the Spring Formal for 1969. Student Council sponsored the dance and decorations took on a sea green and blue cast in the circular gym. Students constructed a giant clam and set up displays for the eve- ning. Serving at the dance were women from NWC's Faculty Wives' Club. The Downbeats en- tertained everyone in this day of soul, and there were even several co-eds sporting the dressy evening variation of the bell-bottom pants. La i l Stu Rusch, Bonnie McKee, Diana Seip, and Mike Lewellen enioy the atmos phere only a formal dance and dreamy setting can give. Formal-The First on The New Campus-an Eventful Dance. The night rolls on, and the students are not going to miss one dance, unless hunger strikes or legs give out, and sometimes it does happen. AWS and Circle K Offer Service cmd Fun Nebraska Western College's female service organization yearly sponsors a Christmas Tea for the students and faculty. They also have secret pals and exchange gifts. This year the girls also put on a free homecoming feed. As a gift to the new campus, the club donated enough money to purchase the color television set for the student body. At the year's conclusion, a surprise party honored their retiring faculty sponsor, Marie Rennecker. The common's fireplace lit up for the first time, and Miss Rennecker received a corsage, a check towards her new stero, and record albums. Promoting friendship is the goal of AWS. Circle K comprises the men's service club on the college campus. Affiliated with Ki- wanis Club, Circle K keeps busy with proi- ects throughout the year. Organization members chopped and delivered firewood on weekends, sold spirit-boosting cowboy hats, ran the royalty elections during home- coming week, held a free-throw contest for area iunior-high boys, sponsored the first NWC car rally, took under-privileged children to basketball games, and coordi- nated activities with other groups during a very busy schedule.
