1967 RECALL WESTERN MILITARY ACADEMY ALTON, ILLINOIS VOLUME XLIII A New Life Begins . . . 513 3 With Knowledge and Training . . . to Achieve 6 Manhood . . . 7 at Western Military Academy. US MAIL 1 fi S3 F oreword We pause — at this familiar place and reverently salute West- ern, our second home that will soon become our Alma Mater. Western! Thou hast taught us well in our brief stay within thy hallowed gates. May the richness of our lives reflect thy precepts learned. 9 Cadets Laugh, Lose, and Learn 10 Maj. W. G. S. Lowe Major W.G.S. Lowe, Commandant from 1901 until 1917, was responsible for a strict and efficient corps that held much respect for him. Col. A. M. Jackson Colonel Albert M. Jackson was one of the founders of Western and Superintendent from 1896-1919. The growth of the student body, faculty and campus is a tribute to his memory. Dedication . . . One of the most beautiful and moving events at the 87th Commencement was the presentation of the oil paintings by the alumni. Brigadier General Edwin H. Randle, Class of ’13, initiated the project and other alumni of those years con- tributed to the fund which made the beautiful gift possible. The surplus funds were donated to the Western Memorial Foundation which is respon- sible for the enlargement of the Senior Lounge, Junior Lounge, and Cadet Library. With the loyal support of the alumni. Western has been able to increase many activities which are important in cadet life. It is for this reason that we, the Senior Class of 1967, dedicate the 1967 Recall to the Alumni with our deepest appreciation and gratitude. 12 ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY Col. R. B. Special Services Home for books and boys. There are many people who work at Western and receive little recognition for the many services they perform. Mr. Ed Thomas has been the barber at the academy for the past twenty-five years and is the best of friends with all the cadets. In her first year at Western Mrs. Irene Mondhink, the assistant librarian, has become a welcome sight in the library the day before a paper is due. Mrs. Tipton is the best of friends with all the cadets who sleep a little too late in barracks study hall and with A.D. slips. There are many others whom space will not allow to mention, but their help and dedication to the cadets is appreciated by all the members of the faculty and administration as well as the cadets themselves. 22 MILITARY Capt.
