The M.T.O. is a service organization with the following stated pur- poses: l. to act as a mediating body between the students and the school administration, 2. to stimulate student interest in serving the school in a way that provides additional honor and credit for deserving under and upper classmen, and 3. to provide a training ground for prospective cadet leader- ship. Membership is based on displayed strengths in character, scholarship, leadership and service and is open to outstanding cadets from each class. This organization has a valuable influence at Western in that it appeals to the highest ideals in the well-rounded cadet.

The Club 400 is Western's own academic honor group which was formed for the purpose of giving cadets special recognition for scholastic excellence. Membership eligibility is dependent upon a 400 average for any home report which must be supported thereafter by an academic average of no less than 300 at any time. To the cadet of superior achieve- ment in the academic field, this organization presents an annual Award of Merit. This is designed to spur all cadets to greater accomplishments. Spirit such as this is an integral part of that which is Western.
