ITHROUGH EXPERIENCES Whose is the spectral statue that stands at twilight as the guardian of the doors to knowledge? This image belongs to the Western student and to all whose appreciation of learning ranks high in the stream of life’s experiences. : The vividly alive college years take precedence as an outroad to a better adjusted, more suitable mode of living. Perforating the time that we spend in formal education are numerous situations that involve our adopting and rejecting values, mental. stimulation from social interaction with other stu- dents, friends, and teachers as well as the gaiety,of the halfway state of being sheltered from the adult world, yet free from the stigmas of teenage supervision, Moreover, every part of college existence can be summarized by the word “experience.” We, as students, are incorporated as a part of the experiences that inspire, enrich, enlighten, and challenge. Although the passing of time may silhouette one experi- ence above another, it is the consummation of experience that'each student has received from college life that is the linkage, which in turn, relates him’ to'Ins fellows and consciously makes him a part of the Spirit of the Hill. The goal of this institutionts-and wall continue to be to provide experiences which foster the development of a spirit which 1s respectful of self and of mankind. With the cognizance of unity of experience as an underpresence, we mold ourselves into masters of the situations of which we are part. Thus,as the question arises as to how we will make the spirit the master, we must answer, by experience. For neither the spirit of life nor the master-making process of education can be measured by years alone, but rather by our rich background of experiences.
