1938 1947 MRS. JOHN NEWTON SMITH (nee Eleanor Pearce) In 1940 Mrs. Smith received the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina. She was employed for the next year in the Library School there. In 1941 Mrs. Smith married Lieutenant John Newton Smith and spent the next three years as an army wife moving from camp to camp. In 1944 Lt. Smith went overseas, and Mrs. Smith became a cata- loguer in the Columbia University library. Upon his return in January, 1946, they went. to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where Mrs. Smith worked in the library. Later in the year after a training period in Washington, D. C., Mr. Smith was assigned to Mexico City as Third Secretary of Embassy, and Mrs, Smith accompanied him. 1940 1947 WILLIAM PROCTOR EUBANK Mr. Eubank received the Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Louisville in 1948. He became a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, honorary scholastic medical fraternity, and Phi Kappa Phi, honor society. The next year he spent in a rotating internship at Louisville General Hospital. The year 1944-1945 brought him the Assistant Presidency in Obstetrics and Genecology at Louisville General Hospital, and the following year he attain ed full presidency. On March 1, 1946, Mr. Eubank went on active duty as a first lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the United States Army. He is stationed at Regional Hospital, Ft. McClellan, Alabama, where he is Chief of Officers’ and Women’s Section of Surgical Service. Page. twelve Peay estern 5 onor 1924 1939 1947 JEWELL J. KAHN In 1941 Mr. Kahn was employed by Joseph E. Seagram and Sons Incorporated, Louisville, Kentucky, and he has been with that company since that time. He is now the Production Manager of their plant at St. Francis, Kentucky. 1941 1947 RICHARD FINLEY GRISE Mr. Grise received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Vanderbilt University, 1944. The following nine months he served as an interne in surgery at the University of Virginia Hospital and for nine addi- tional months he served there as Assistant-Resident in Surgery. In May, 1946, Mr. Grise was inducted into the United States Army and assigned to the Army Air Forces. He served at Keesler Field for one month. From June to December, 1946, he was Chief of Sur- gical Service at the Station Hospital, Westover Field, Massachusetts. Since then he has been Chief Surgeon of the Station Hospital with the 1391st Army Air Force Base Unit on Teceria Island, Azores.

ae ales 1946 1935 1947 MILTON A. JONES In 1988 Mr, Jones received the LL.B. Degree from Harvard Law School at Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is a member of the Kentucky Bar and has been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. After being employed as an attorney of the United States Department of Agriculture, he became affiliated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent on February 6, 1939. He is now stationed in Washington, D. C., as a member of the FBI Head- quarters staff. 1937 1947 JOSEPHINE MIDDLETON Miss Middleton received the Master of Arts Degree from Peabody College, Nashville, Tennessee, in 1942. She is now in the Art Department of Stephen F. Austin College, Nacogdoches, Texas. 1934 1947 JOHN B. THOMAS, JR. From 1935-1943 Mr. Thomas was an English teacher in Louisville high schools. In 1940 he received his Master of Arts Degree in English from Indiana University. He has done part-time college teaching at the Indiana University Extension Center at Jeffer- sonville, Indiana, and at George Washington Univer- sity, Washington, D, C. Mr. Thomas entered the United States Navy in July, 1943, and is still in the service. He holds the rank of lieutenant. He and Mrs. Thomas, the former Rena Belle Angle (Western, 1935), have been living in Washington, D. C., for the past two years. 1936 1947 ROBERT E. SCHELL In June, 1940, Mr. Schell graduated from Vanderbilt University Medical School, Nashville, Tennessee, with a Doctor of Medicine Degree. During 1940 and 1941 Dr. Schell was an interne at Vanderbilt University Hospital and was then appointed to the Resident Staff in Pediatrics. In July, 1941, he started active duty with the Army Medical Corps doing chest and com- municable disease work at hospitals in Denver, Colorado; Nashville, Tennessee; and Ashville, North Carolina. In November, 1946, he was separated as a Major: At present Dr. Schell is Director of the Medical Service at the Veteran’s Administration’s General Hospital, Swannanoa, North Carolina. Page eleven

bed ita tos 1946 1943 1947 WILFORD SCHELL In March, 1946, Mr. Schell was graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, Tennessee, with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honorary medical fraternity, Dr. Schell is now serving as an intern in surgery at Vanderbilt University Hospital. 1945 1947 MARY VIRGINIA HENDRICK Since 1945 Miss Hendrick has been an assistant in chemistry at Ohio State Universit y, Columbus, Ohio, and has been working on her Masters Degree. Since January 1, 1947, she has held the title of Special Assistant of the general or freshman chemistry staff. 1942 1947 JEAN KEITH In December 1942 Mr. Keith entered Midshipman’s School at Northwestern University beginning a term in the Navy that ended April 16, 1946. Mr. Keith is now working on his Master’s Degree in American History at Johns Hopkins University. 1944 1947 MRS. CHARLES HE. FELIX (nee Fannie Edmonson) From 1944 to 1946 Miss Edmonson taught in Wisner School, Pontiac, Michigan. In April, 1946, Miss Edmonson married Charles E. Felix. She is now teach- ing in the Richardsville High School, Warren County, Kentucky, while her husband is attending the Bowling Green Business University, Bowling Green, Kentucky. 1946 1947 MARTHA SAM SHERRILL Miss Sherrill holds the position of fifth grade teacher at Takoma Park Elementary School, Takoma Park, Maryland.
