T Tim--lil i T Activities of the School There are many activities in Western Junior High School in which the pupils enjoy participation, and Where they are given opportunities to develop citizenship through the exercising of self-control, initiative, fair play, reliability, con- sideration, friendliness, helpfulness, cooperation, leadership. Clubs, which meet every Thursday afternoon, are one of the most popular of the activities. The students are in charge of the meetings and feel themselves responsible for the progress of the club. Each boy and girl is given the privilege of selecting his own club. An annual operetta presented in the spring is an activity in which both the faculty and entire student body participate. Every department contributes something to the project, and all enjoy the success of the undertaking. A large number of pupils take an active part in the music department. In addition to the regular singing classes there is an orchestra composed of thirty pieces, a drum and bugle corps, a dance orchestra, and a regular musical instru- mental class. c Every boy and girl in the school has the opportunity to take part in some form of athletics. The classes compete in such games as volley ball, triangle ball, soccer, basketball, and others. The school competes with the other junior high schools in football, basketball, and track. Play Day, in which the girls in the eighth grades of the junior high schools of the city take part in competitive sports, is a feature of the year.
