Western's Musicmakers The dance band is a group of Pioneers who meet after school and polish up their musical talent. Some day if they get good enough we might have our own music to dance by! Mr. Oswald has made our orchestra into a mighty good sounding group. Proof of this is found in the following sentences: Disneyland enjoyed their music and I'm sure they enjoyed Disne land. The la ed Y Y P Y for our Christmas assem- bly and were liked by everyone. The Anaheim Music Festival was hon- ored to have our orches- tra perform for them. All in all, Mr. Oswald de- serves a bi hand 'ust as 8 J the orchestra members do. Our band is a great group of music-makers who really know their stuff. They havemarched in quite a few parades, like the Norwalk parade, in which they received a trophy for first place. At the Anaheim Music Festi- val they earned a good rating, not to mention the sharp half-time football performances and the Christmas assembly, which was a big success. Disneyland was also a highlight of the band's many performances.

Glee and Trio Our glee club is a wonderful singing group to which many girls are proud to belong. Mrs. Kuhns, their director, is also proud but in a different way. She is proud of her groups' singing achievements and who Wouldn't be. They have performed at Disneyland and also here at Western. These girls deserve some re- ward for their fine entertainment, and perhaps this paragraph will be enough. Anyway, all of us at Western want to thank them for the hours of enjoyment they have given to us. Mr. Jackman, the mixed chorus director, has, during the year, taken untrained voices and changed them into a group whom Western is glad to have. This then is a thank-you from us at Western to the mixed chorus who have entertained us wonderfully. Mixed Chorus 70 1 3 1 1 i 1 1 i 1 W I '1 w i

In fact, these two places would be a mess if the Westernettes wern't on the ball. Each year the girls have a service project of some sort. This year they all contributed money and bought toys for the children of the Orange County hospital. Their project brightened Christmas for many children. The Westerners and the Westernettes have an annual get-together at the end of the year. This event is always looked forward to by both clubs. The Westernettes would all like to thank Miss Hartman and Mrs. Richardson for the wonderful lead- ership they have given to them. 72
