Social Studies has new course The Social Studies Department instituted a new course this year- Black Culture. Students who took this course studied the Negro and his contributions to American life. Some- times there are very heated discussions on controversial issues. stated Deb Neudigate, Black Culture student. Class time is mostly spent talking about current affairs with current issues concerning blacks getting top priority. Also for the first time a growing interest in advanced placement American History necessitated the institution of a second class. No history was required for sophmores, but Modern History and World History were offered. Iuniors were required to take American Histo- ry. Socio-Economic Problems. advanced placement European Histo- ry, and Current Affairs were offered to Seniors. Current Affairs gives the student a clear idea of the world situa- tiong then he is better able to deal with problems of the world.
