mh- T52 English classes stress literature study 'Q-.,. J 1' ,- -' .1 .Q X 'It' l fig M. The Academic world of West High enabled students to find the Western Way through knowledge. The many diverse courses of West High gave students, who were striving for knowledge, the chance to attain their goals. The academic world is just one facet of the Western Way. English classes this year stressed liter- ature study. Four new books, Some- thing Strange, This is lust to Say, The Last Hurrah, and Man in the Dramatic Mode were introduced at West High. Literature was used for purposes of discussions. The English language is the most basic and common means of communication. lt's the basic and most important thing in your entire life, stated Miss Lenora Weber, department head. Since all other subjects depend on the students abili- ty to communicate, English is the basis of education. Sophomores and Iuniors were required to take English, but the Senior English course was an elective. English was offered at basic, general, academic, and advanced levels. The difference between any two levels was the speed at which the class progressed and the amount of in-depth study that was done, Miss Weber said. ocodemic 2l
