T ,M A A English classes probe men's thoughts, deeds English at West High is more than parts of speech. It is grammar rules, vocabulary and composition, and it is learning to read and interpret literature. But it is also thinking about the questions asked and emotions produced, and maybe writing original poetry and stories outside ot class assignments. Journalism classes offer a chance to put creativity to work for the newspaper and annual, and give a sense of personal satisfaction and pride on seeing work in print. Students also can attend plays such as Comedy of Errors and Joan of Arc at special student rates at the new Playhouse in the Park. ln the classroom special movies present and interpret required read- ings. Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn and Shakes- peare's Macbeth were used this year. flag? Far Left: Under Shakespeare's watchful eye, Nancy Witte looks up material for o paper on Macbeth. Upper Center: A.
