Latin, the mother tongue of our mother tongue, supplies a broad foundation on which to build the study of the modern languages. As world horizons narrow and foreigners become neighbors, the need grows for Americans to understand these people. Only through knowledge of each other's language, can people gain that understanding. Every high school student should study a foreign language. Latin, the classical language, opens the door to the idealism and vast knowledge of the past, French, Spanish, German, the modern languages, keep the door open for the realism of the present. Miss B.
