In knowledge, man finds guidance .... Although Pioneers often found the business of edu- cation to be long and tedious, there was fulfillment in the chores they completed. For many, education connected action, Involvement and on-the-job training were often the keys to learning, and for those students who became involved in their work, the entire process was simplified. Seniors learned that their future was in the palms of their hands to do with as they wishedg but more than this, they discovered that education was a major factor in success. Plans for the future were often vague, but every stu- dent was influenced by the long hours spent in a class- room. wi VOYAGE TO THE FUTURE-5

From the beginning, all systems were 'GO', as students poured their energy into activities which exemplified Westhi pride and traditions. School spirit was evident in every activity: from the rousing football games, traced back to long hard hours of practiceg from a band concert traced back to hot summer aftemoon rehearsalsg from a peppy songleading routine which sprang from long ses- sions at the drawing board. Student devotion to their school was manifest in projects they instigated and saw completed dur- ing the year they spent at Westem. For some, success was evident in the Student Park, which was dedicated in 1970. For others it was the smooth and efficient running of the Homecoming Corona- tion.
