Ten years ago students at West- ern pondered over what the sixties held in store for them-it would be a decade of progress and change. This year, as the world stepped into a new era of exploration and discovery, the Pioneers wondered in the same way-knowing that we must not repeat the mistakes of the past. We are a restless generation- a searching, questioning, ener- getic youth-campaigning to de- stroy the hate, ignorance, and cor- ruption which threaten our goals of peace and brotherhood. As the Pioneers who came across the frontier in covered wagons with a burning desire to find a better life, we must seek to reach this unreachable star. will we succeed? A new decade is just starting. A time to challenge the conventional and to examine the extreme. A new beginning. The Pioneers began the '69-'70 school year by energetically par- ticipating in activities-honoring their motto With Pioneer Spirit Anything Can Be Accomplished. The ambitious strove to perfect that which they saw imperfect- devoting many tedious hours after school. Although unnoticed by many, the perfection they strove for was a source of satisfaction to those who felt their time was well used. On some occasions, they had to forfeit recreation for work. So intent were they in their pursuit of perfection that dances or movies became second in importance. The traditional PRIDE was evi- dent as a persistant football team maintained its prowess through vic- tory and defeat, as a meticulous Drill Team performed at halftime, and as a resonant A Cappella Choir exhibited its artistry in concert. 4-A BOLD NEW ERA
