Mr. Tony Ortega Vice-Principals Administrators co-ordinated school policies Western's three Vice-Principals adapted themselves to the individual needs of students on all three grade levels. Mr. Herbert Roesner, Mr. Martin Martelli, and Mr. Anthony Ortega successfully exercised their authority and took on the responsibility of counseling and correcting Western's most massive class of 800 novice soph- omores. They helped juniors adjust to high school life, while they spent many hours helping Western's smallest and most active class adjust to the responsibilities of life outside of high school. Mr. Mohr kept communications wide open. Board of Trustees The AUHSD resembled a machine- its complex organization demanded expert guidance and care to keep it functioning smoothly. Capable people were needed to operate the system. The burden of run- ning the large district was placed upon the shoulders of Superintendent Ken- neth Wines and the five other men on the board. Their duties were to keep in touch with the public as well as with the principals and teachers of the schools. The responsibilities of making school allocations, formulating policies and meeting monthly to discuss education- al and financial problems were also in their hands. It is -as Q W Counselors Working along with the teachers in preparing students for a future, the counselors created a secure place where students could turn for special help.
