A leader-example of strength and excellence. Someone who boldly searches for new courses of directing and educating-loolo ing to the future for opportunities and to the past for inspiration. At Western, leaders came in the form of counselors, teachers, coach- es, students, principals-all striving for perfection, Student leaders employed co- operation and communication to create unity in the Pioneers. Teachers boldly tossed aside obsolete methods of instruction and developed new ones-ones which inspired creativity and per- ception. They encouraged all to become involved in activities and to strive for the zenith of accomplishment. All began to mold harmony into the year by listening to others' words and seeing through their words to their sentiments. 6-A BOLD NEW ERA

Through their curiosity and am- bition, the Pioneers experienced life. Firsthand experience was one means by which they leaped beyond the limitations of the printed word- developing an awareness of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Through contact with their con- temporaries, they learned from the mistakes of others, just as they learned from their wisdom. Conscious that a vast and ex- tensive body of knowledge was worthless unless cultivated by ac- tion, they concentrated on their classes-taking another step to make their generation a prosperous one.
