:L-sg 1 Q , at 1 it , if f- -.,-rf. , With pre-registration days ahead of them, the Administra- tion retumed to school in the late summer to formulate their projects for the up-and-coming fall, winter and spring seasons. There was a new addition to the vice principals this year as Mr. Miles Brakke joined Mrs. Norma Lee Elliott and Mr. Martin Martelli in supervising student behavior. One of the most beneficial features of the school system was the counseling service headed by Mrs. Pauline Cota. Mr. Robert Clough vigorously directed campus activities with a dedication not often surpassed. Mr. Robert Hoffmaster regu- lated the Pioneer finances during his first year at Western. Mrs. Avis Spencer, the school nurse, soothed Pioneer aches and pains. Librarian Miss Beatrice Griflin fostered an interest in outside learning for Western Students. Counseling and student activi- ties are most important. For that reason, Western can be proud that it has the best to offer. No other school can make the boast that these departments are the best. ,.

These people very seldom receive a thank you for their Workf but praise is not a part of their routine-just Work. The custodians kept the campus spotless by Working day and night shifts. After school they cleaned and swept the classrooms for the next day. Forewarned by the noon bell, the cafeterians prepared hot lunches for a starving pack of Pioneers. Winter rains and cold weather kept the indoor cafeteria bustling, While many students turned to the outdoor concession stands under more pleasant autumn and spring conditions. The office staff Worked long hours in the attendance and unit oflices keeping the busi- ness aspects of the school run- ning smoothly. Library clerks issued books to the students and collected fines for overdue books. They also kept discipline in the li- brary. i wa we meer 'gum ' ff' 1 1--:r x fr :Y ' -11,- A' , -'3fSg1jL'.L1i2I 6552: .fieftfisz F 'ie We rs: r eeswfefi
