.gf -Q E 'fgg '2s.tQe...':-- 1.-. ff 7Ti:,::.,,AEf-'- The task of supervising schools of the Anaheim Union High School District was a year-round job for the Board of Trustees. These volunteer men made the local educational system both rewarding and profitable. The Board of Trustees was headed by Supt. of Schools Mr. Paul Cook. In his ninth year as superintendent, Mr. Cook used this experience to provide plans for the betterment of Western, as Well as the other schools in the district. Since 1962, Mr. Avon B. Carl- son has been the dedicated, hard-working man who knew the students at Western and how to handle them through the seasons of this past year. He was present at many pep rallies because he enjoyed being with the students, not because he was required to be there. He has given the Pioneers an example of academic achievement by work- ing to receive a Ph.D. in veteri- nary medicine from the Univer- sity of Southern California. To Mr. Carlson, Pioneer Pride was more than a motto, it was a goal to live up to.

:L-sg 1 Q , at 1 it , if f- -.,-rf. , With pre-registration days ahead of them, the Administra- tion retumed to school in the late summer to formulate their projects for the up-and-coming fall, winter and spring seasons. There was a new addition to the vice principals this year as Mr. Miles Brakke joined Mrs. Norma Lee Elliott and Mr. Martin Martelli in supervising student behavior. One of the most beneficial features of the school system was the counseling service headed by Mrs. Pauline Cota. Mr. Robert Clough vigorously directed campus activities with a dedication not often surpassed. Mr. Robert Hoffmaster regu- lated the Pioneer finances during his first year at Western. Mrs. Avis Spencer, the school nurse, soothed Pioneer aches and pains. Librarian Miss Beatrice Griflin fostered an interest in outside learning for Western Students. Counseling and student activi- ties are most important. For that reason, Western can be proud that it has the best to offer. No other school can make the boast that these departments are the best. ,.
