To every activity there was a season, and spring heralded a change in campus activities. The coming of baseball season illus- trated Pioneer pride in the field of sports. The girls further pro- jected this pride by competing in GAA. The Silhouette Drill Team, after a year of hard Work and practice, presented a springtime show for the entire student body. Paramount among the dances for the year was the Iunior-Senior Prom. Thoughts of graduation pre- vailed in the minds of Seniors. The Juniors were anticipating becoming Seniors and the Sopho- mores were anxiously awaiting being anything but Sophomores. Each student had a different feeling about the completion of another high school year. For some, it was a feeling of nostal- gia, while for others it was a sigh of relief. .gf -Q E 'fgg '2s.tQe...':-- 1.-. ff 7Ti:,::.,,AEf-'- The task of supervising schools of the Anaheim Union High School District was a year-round job for the Board of Trustees. These volunteer men made the local educational system both rewarding and profitable. The Board of Trustees was headed by Supt. of Schools Mr. Paul Cook. In his ninth year as superintendent, Mr. Cook used this experience to provide plans for the betterment of Western, as Well as the other schools in the district. Since 1962, Mr. Avon B. Carl- son has been the dedicated, hard-working man who knew the students at Western and how to handle them through the seasons of this past year. He was present at many pep rallies because he enjoyed being with the students, not because he was required to be there. He has given the Pioneers an example of academic achievement by work- ing to receive a Ph.D. in veteri- nary medicine from the Univer- sity of Southern California. To Mr. Carlson, Pioneer Pride was more than a motto, it was a goal to live up to.
