Dear Class of 1963, We believe here at Western that the basic purpose underlying everything that we do is the intellectual and moral development of each student to her greatest capacityf' You have caught the spirit of this statement in the theme which you have chosen for the yearbook. Wisdom implies knowledge and understanding. The pity in lacking the desire for wisdom, the tragedy in not knowing how to find it, are things to ponder. The quotation which you have used is profoundly true. In this present age we are traveling fast toward an uncertain destination. We cannot conceive of the future of life on this planet even a decade from now. We will need women who seek wisdom and who use the wisdom that is theirs to guide the world in the way in which it should go. l congratulate you on the perception that was yours when you chose the theme. As you follow the search for wisdom-and it is a never ending one--be mindful, however, of its two-fold nature. There must also be understanding. It was expressed many centuries ago in these words, an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad. Only when you combine the two-knowledge and understanding-will Western have served you in the best fashion. We see you leave with real regret, and we hope that you will return to share many happy occasions with us. May the years spent at Western have provided you with the wisdom that will make your lives successful ones, and may you keep your devotion to Western's ideals and contribute your best to your home, your city and your country.
