KENNEDY President of the United States Automation, push buttons, and gadgets work to get things done faster, leaving our lives with empty time, time spent in sitting and watching others. Our coun- try cannot afford to sit idly by. If America is to remain strong, we must be strong, not only in mind, but also in body. Home- making utilizes science, mathematics, art, social science, and psychology in its most basic and fruitful form. The man- aging of the home is the greatest business in the world, and its success is based upon a rounded knowledge and skill in the managing and doing of things. The home economic faculty is ever conscious that making the home a happy and pleasant place to live is both a science and an art. Armed with their vast knowledge they create in a few short years a woman as sweet as parfait, but as substantial as a Yankee pot roast. The capable home economics department is charged with the responsibility of making tomorrow's homemakers able to assume their roles with dignity and ability. LIBRARY SERVICE Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested. FRANCIS BACON Of Studies There are many different types of books, and there are many diHerent ways of judging the value of individual books. This judgment is personal, and entirely up to the individual. Opinions of books are relative and a high school pupil must often have guidance. In forming an opinion of a book a background of good literature is also important. Miss Mary Horsey, Westernis librarian, helps the girls of Western not only by guiding their reading program, but also by pro- viding them with an excellent collection of good literature. x .57 , MXX x S A . HERBERT SPENCER Education We the students realize the important part that good health plays in daily life. Yet people generally ignore good health habits. Nurse Grace llahn and her Health Suite Aids work incessantly to make each individual pupil cognizant of plain living which promotes high thinking.
