Mathematics possesses not only truth, hu! supreme beauty-a beauty cold and austere . . . such as only the greatest art can showf, BERTRAND RUSSELL Mathematics has been called the L'handmaiden . and the Hlanguagev of the sciences. The study of mathematics inculcates the objectivity, mental disci- pline. and precision so essential in this field. Math also provides the ability to translate scientihc data into workable formulae. Mathematics. however, is not only useful to the sciences, but it is a fascinating and worthwhile study in it- self. It teaches logic, mental discipline, and furnishes the tools necessary to cope with problems arising in daily life. Westerns courses in algebra. geometry, trigonometry, analytics, and calculus are geared to these ends. With a sound knowledge of mathematics, one possesses a true passport into the realm of the sciences.
