Qiovrewor V Our world, Western! How much it has progressed in the last four years since some of us entered! As a community, suflicient in itself, it has grown and devel- oped, and we, its citizens, from humble novices, have learned to play our parts. We have had not only a course in academic knowledge, but we have learned much in qualities of citizenship, sportsmanship and sociability. We form in Western many affections for ideals and people, both teachers and classmates. Some of us are now going forth into the larger community of the college or the business world. Again we shall start as apprentices, and again our growth shall be as fine and great as it has been in high school. To preserve the things we value in Western and to form plans for the future we, the Class of l93l, have compiled this book.

I have observed the indelible creed our young gears has given us: The pursuit of Right and the fear of Wrong, I have seen the colossal machine of this vorticose age. Our radio to link this globe into one great whole. New adventures alll Airplane! Telegraph! Telephone' A thousand huge. steel, complex machines patterned by the ingenious brain. I have also realized the glorious gifts of liberal educa- tion, And the cool echoes of our voices will resound in later years. I have seen, I have known again. the sharp, sweet air of better living. And as we pass to take our places in this moving age, I can sag. and so will you, Inventions that threatened ill, are good. YVith them we will paint the world with progress. MARTHA EVANS E '5 5 JN
