They express an interest in, and have the qualities for, becoming secre- taries. Being associated with the local chapter of the Na- tional Secretaries Association helps develop desirable traits and gives a better understanding of the business world. A point sheet is kept by all of the members of the club. It is based on the attendance of club meetings, special school work, and special chapter work. The members of the National Honor Society are selected on the basis of character, leadership, scholarship, and ser- vice; in addition, they must maintain a 90 or above average. The N.H.S. encourages and promotes scholarship and carries out a number of activities throughout the year. Activities this year included canvassing for the scholarship fund and aiding area schools in organizing the successful state convention. The N.H.S. also published a student directory. S. Chisholm and H. Amick work out committees at a N.H.S. meeting.

OFFICE ASSISTANTS Each hour of each day the office assistants are busy at work. Sorting mail, writing excuses, running errands, typing and other odd jobs become not just another dull task, but a vital part in the heartbeat of Western. GUIDANCE ASSISTANTS The beginning of the school day finds Ray Charles Turner ready for any task he might perform as a guid- ance assistant. Kelly McMillan and Russell Wright also look forward to helping their school in this capacity. Janice Davis, June Massey, and Rick Owen round out their daily activities by sharing the work of the depart- ment.
