19 The measure of a man is somehow found in the good and the inspiration which he generates to others, in that portion of himself which he sacrifices for others. Such a man is N.G. Bryan who received his A.B. degree from Atlantic Christian, and his Masters, in 1941, from U.N.C.-Chapel Hill. Mr. Bryan married Dora Bundy from McCall, South Carolina. They have two children and five grandchildren. His first teaching position was at Gibson, N.C.; later moving to Middlesex where he was teacher, coach, and prin- cipal for ten years. In the Mecklenburg, Thomasboro school, he was principal for three years. Would you believe this man worked with students all day and then, after school hours, devoted many extra hours to the scouting program as a Scout leader! From 1945-1961 this versatile young man was Principal of the Graham School district which included four schools. Two years were spent at Altamahaw-Ossipee as Guidance Director before coming to Western High School in 1963 as Director of Guidance. Western High School has been better because of Mr. Bryan’s dedication to young people. More and more the students have come to realize the help which he gives to them. It is most appropriate that, upon Mr. Bryan’s retirement from formal school activity, we dedicate the We-Hi-Wa to him and affectionately say, Our love and best wishes to you — “Chief Red Tie.”
