( Acationa Agricultural C ducat ion Adult education pai ' allels the other important phases of our total school program. The Vocational Agricultural Department oi Western High School considers the training of adults as one of the most essential and gratifying areas of the curriculum. In order to meet the agricultural needs of the adults of our community, an advisory committee, composed of farmers, businessmen, government employees, and teachers, was established by the local school board to advise the agricultural teachers as to what courses are needed throughout the year. This year, for the first time, the Vo-Ag Department sought to interest women in the program through courses in Parliamentary Procedure, and Income Tax Reporting. Other courses offered were Beginning Welding, Small Engine Repair, and Tractor Maintenance. Each short- course was offered in the afternoon and evening hours. The Western Alamance Farmers Improvement Club, a special interest group, was sponsored by the Vo-Ag Department, and it used the Agricultural facilities from January through March. One hundred and thirty individuals attended one or more of the ninety-five hours of instruction offered. Besides being interested in the technical information presented, these adults list fellowship and new friendships as factors which tend to stimulate interest in their coming to Western for post high school instruction. Mr. L. A. Freeman Mr. Benny Hampton 94
