Bus drivers play an important part in the daily function of Western High School. Their responsibility for the students of our school is a great one and their service invaluable. To become a bus driver two days of class work and a test is first required; then a road test. Any moving traffic viola- tion, no matter how small, revokes the driver ' s bus license. Howard Barnhardt, Steve Barber, Sandra Huffines, Loretta Somers, Virginia Per- kins, Joanne Poteat, Lynda Pritchett, Mary Harrington, Steve Cates, Ernest Haw- kins. it We have twenty- one student library assistants who work in the library because they elected to be there. The work they do means a great deal to them as well as to the school. They have a B or above average, high citizenship rating, an attitude of helpfulness, neatness of person and dress, willingness to do any task assigned, and are taught to assume a professional attitude while on duty. Students helping with library service receive one credit for two years of work. They give one hour of service daily and are expected to do a certain amount of library study, involving an examination at the end of the school year. They are organized into a Library Club, which is affiliated with the District and State High School Library Association. The club sponsors an annual talent show and takes a field trip each year to some outstanding high school or college library.
