Local School Committee Booster ' s Club Stadium Committee County Board of Education County Commissioners and all individuals and firms who contributed time and money to provide a more complete school for the Warriors we dedicate this third volume of the WE-HI-WA. Since work began on Warrior Stadium on January 16, 1964 a football field, baseball field and track have been completed, lights installed, a concession stand and ticket booth provided, and the area grassed and fenced with temporary bleachers available for both sides of the field. Approx- imately $30,000.00 of non-tax money was raised for this project. This outstanding achievement is a tribute to all the dedicated patrons of Western High School. Mr. A. M. Primm and Mr. C. C. Linnemann speak to some of the out- standing leaders on the night of the dedication - Nimrod Harris, Mark Mc- Adams, Vernon Jones, Jim White, Horace Rascoe, O. C. Harris, Howard Edgerton, Jim Kistler, A. J. Rogers, Bryce Hanes, J. B. Long, Neil Fleming, W. W. Snyder, Tommy Faggert, C. C. Linnemann and Henry Cole. These and many, many others serve the school and community in this and other projects. The WE-HI-WA staff and the student body of Western High Schoof pay tribute to Janet Ann Sparrow, a member of the class of 1966, who lost her life in an accident on August 8, 1964. Her life made an imprint on those who knew and loved her and her passing left a void in our midst. 17 196.5 Ilene White, Teresa Somers, Cindy Robertson, Susan McAdams, Penny Simpson. These eleven marshals were selected on the basis of having the Highest Scholastic Average in the Junior Class. They represent the school on all occasions when ushers are needed-during visitations, graduation and many other school functions. This is the highest scholastic honor a Junior can receive at Western High School. This year ' s group all have an academic average above ninety- four for their high school years. High Point College M.A. U.N.C., Chapel Hill Western High School enters its third year of operation under the capable guidance and lead- ership of its administrative head, Mr. A. M. Primm. He is to be found from early morning until late at night constantly striving to keep the high standards he and other officials, teachers, parents, and members of the student body have set for Western High. This year the school be- came a fully accredited member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Mr. Primm is never too busy to take time to hear a student ' s problem, to talk to a parent, or to participate in a community activity. His guiding hand makes a firm and lasting imprint upon the lives of all who are a part of the school community. Their tireless devotion to the educational cause has contributed much to the efficiency of Western High School. Mr. C. C. Western ' s Absent-minded Professors are briefed for the day as they assemble in the lobby of the administration building at eight o ' clock each morning with the purpose of leaving no absent-minded students during the day. ( Acationa Agricultural C ducat ion Adult education pai ' allels the other important phases of our total school program. The Vocational Agricultural Department oi Western High School considers the training of adults as one of the most essential and gratifying areas of the curriculum. In order to meet the agricultural needs of the adults of our community, an advisory committee, composed of farmers, businessmen, government employees, and teachers, was established by the local school board to advise the agricultural teachers as to what courses are needed throughout the year. This year, for the first time, the Vo-Ag Department sought to interest women in the program through courses in Parliamentary Procedure, and Income Tax Reporting. Other courses offered were Beginning Welding, Small Engine Repair, and Tractor Maintenance. Each short- course was offered in the afternoon and evening hours. The Western Alamance Farmers Improvement Club, a special interest group, was sponsored by the Vo-Ag Department, and it used the Agricultural facilities from January through March. One hundred and thirty individuals attended one or more of the ninety-five hours of instruction offered. Besides being interested in the technical information presented, these adults list fellowship and new friendships as factors which tend to stimulate interest in their coming to Western for post high school instruction. The work they do means a great deal to them as well as to the school. They have a B or above average, high citizenship rating, an attitude of helpfulness, neatness of person and dress, willingness to do any task assigned, and are taught to assume a professional attitude while on duty. Students helping with library service receive one credit for two years of work. They give one hour of service daily and are expected to do a certain amount of library study, involving an examination at the end of the school year. They are organized into a Library Club, which is affiliated with the District and State High School Library Association. The club sponsors an annual talent show and takes a field trip each year to some outstanding high school or college library. A new group on the West- ern scene this year is the Drama Class directed by Mrs. Dorothy Westafer. Although handicapped by lack of stag- ing facilities, the group has created a great deal of in- terest through their dramatic presentations. At times the hall outside the door of the drama room reverberate with sound as the actors play their chosen roles.
