Golfers Retain Title Under Coach John Dardzinski, the Western golf team captured the golf title for the third consecu- tive season. The Panthers compiled an outstanding 13-1 conference record and an over all season rec- ord of16-2. In addition to finishing first in the conference, the golf team also placed fifth at Regionals and seventh at the Dearborn Invitational. The team averaged 159 strokes while their opponents averaged 166. Brian Conklin, Howdy Snyder, Craig Raehtz, and Rusty Coon were the team's top four golfers. Brian Conklin earned the most valuable player award and received all-league honors. Most improved player was Craig Raehtz. Also contributing to the success- ful season were Grant Brown, Brian Brown, and Tim Worthington, all rotating as fifth man. Western golfers experienced a rarity this season by completing a regular match in a dead tie with Con- cord on Western's home course, Burr Oak. To break the tie, the first four players had to play the first hole over in sudden death. Rusty Coon and Craig Raehtz saved the day for Western by sinking two clutch putts. gg - --.f If-.1 is-. . 59 4452.:M??5:5i3sa:i,gS21q?:.lFil, T '7iL1f5:55i21is1?3li1l i ,. , , . 5.,wigs.:,i..5ks.k3,i: gig..
