industrial arts Skills Utilized Whether or not they utilize their skills in life-time occupations, students studying industrial arts ac- quire valuable mechanical knowledge. Courses range from Mr. Hopek's 8th grade introduction to wood shop to lVlr. WelIington's direction of house construction. ln addition, the areas of power me- chanics, basic shop fMr. Marv Larsenj, drafting and architectural drawing ClVlr. Bob Shillingj allow stu- dents to explore a variety of technical skills. The third annual house construction project was successfully completed toward the end of the school year. Mr. lVlarty Wellington, department chairman and co-ordinator of the project, ex- pressed pride in his workers by presenting two gold- en hammer awards, instead of one. The recipients were Kevin Roberts and Larry Uphaus. All those tak- ing part in the construction project were congratu- lated for their year-round efforts regardless of weather conditions. Their care certainly shows. A visit to the ranch type home makes that immediate- ly evident. 39

P.E. Department Adds Co-Ed. Physical education classes were conducted in a somewhat different manner this year. Students were given a choice of regular classes held by John Dardzynski, or co-educational courses. The co-educational P.E. classes are proving most interesting. Under the direction of Miss Lake, Nlrs. Spotts, and lVlr. Houston, students became involved in activities such as gymnastics, self- defense, badminton, and golf. Track, softball, and volleyball still existed, but the new areas, were where students and teachers excelled. This new course exposed students to a variety of ac- tivities and provided a refreshing break for teach- ers to expand their skills into new fields. 41
