N This year's business department carried on in much the same manner as before. Mr. Kalahar resumed his classes of Typing I. Office machines, a new class to acquaint students with the pro- per use of the machinery, helped to keep Mrs. lnman busy, along with Typing ll and Bookkeeping. New Calculators were purchased by the department, for students use. Mrs. White, rejoined the staff this fall, teaching Typing I, Short- hand, and Office Procedures. Thru the year, Mr. Smith worked hard to form and keep a new co- op class. Students worked in the afternoon or night and received credits toward graduation, learn- ing through experiencing.

Clark Jorgensen, wonder- ing about his typing assignment. asks Mr. Kalahar for advice. 5. Watching Jim Gage fix an adding machine, Mrs. Inman hopes that he knows what he is doing. 6. art and music Students Express Self Thru Various lVledia The art and music departments had several new members this year. ln the art department, lVlr. Dan Cutler joined the teaching staff at Western High, taking over for lVlrs. Septic. He concentrated on new concepts of creativity. The music department also had a new member. After the resignation of Nlrs. Allen, Miss Cheryl De- fendorf became the new music teacher. She also worked with a select choir. Nlr. Dennis Hurley introduced a guitar class to West- ern High this year. This is the first time anything like this has been done, and he hopes to work with the students in other ways similar to this in the near future. 36
