Teaching people to read and write isn't as easy as it seems. It you think otherwise, ask any of Western's language staff members. It is their task to devise inter- esting ways for students to learn the art of communi- cation. ln searching for new teaching techniques, a large and varied curriculum has been developed. Now, more than ever, students have the opportunity to take the language courses they need. Mrs. Francis Keeling is junior English and Independent reading instructor. Mr. Tom Hardwick, department chairman, headed this year's team of 8th grade Eng- lish teachers consisting of himself, Mr. Lyn Cryder- man, and Mrs. Sue Thurman. Mrs. Bonnie Smock taught freshman English and Mrs. Pat Steenhuysen helped the sophomores with their A,B,C's. Mrs. Pau- line Zeller completed the Language Department staff, by adding the finishing touches to Senior skills. For those students not content with English, Western also offered French and Spanish, taught by Mrs. Zeller and Mrs. Thurman respectively.
