-xr, M..-2.3 A new approach towards baseball at Western was tried this year with the team traveling to Florida for spring training and pre-sea- son conditioning. The finances for the trip were raised by the team through such projects as a Tiger Basketball game, raffles, and candy sales. The biggest project by far was the Tiger Basketball game held in February of this year. Such Tiger stars as Gates Brown, Norm Cash, Bill Freehan and Jim Price made the evening a family affair. The crowd bordered on 2000 spectators and autographs were given at half-time. The total in- take was over S1,100 towards the trip. While in Ft. Lauderdale, the team ran through infield and outfield practices in the morning lunched then played games until 3:00. From then on time was free until midnight. For most of the guys this was their first trip to Florida and they took advantage of the beautiful surroundings in more ways than one. Most free time was spent either on the beaches or checking out the town itself. On the whole, the trip was a new and unforgettable experience for Coach Kalahar and his team.
