The '78 Football year was one of building Western's football team, suffering many losses, pulled through the season with a l-8 win-loss record. Opposite page, top, A Basic fumble causes much confusion on the field as the Warriors try to recover the ball. Leon gets stopped just short of the goal line. Everybody chases the ball carrier. 11 ,,,..mwM Western's spirit is never dampened, even by the rain When dawn came on Friday, October 20, Western students were faced with one of the biggest rain storms that has ever drenched the Las Vegas area. Getting to school was a major task and only those who were most intrepid were able to make it. This page, top, As usual when it rains, Decatur became almost impassable. Brian Pyane shows the muscle that helped to push many cars with water-soaked innards out of the way. Bottom, The crowd watches another brave vehicle try to make it through. Brian wades out into the rising waters once more. Opposite page, top, A brave soul wades into the building. Brian Garrett finally made it to school thoroughly soaked after helping to push various cars out of the flooded streets. Bottom, Only a few students came equipped with umbrellas and other rain apparatus. The dash from the car to the classroom was a rapid one. The school buses drove up onto the sidewalks in order to help students get in out of the rain in the shortest possible time.
