Thatis what the fall of 1961 produced. The XVarriors started the year without a player who had a minute of varsity ex- perience and with a team that averaged only 148 pounds all around .... The players tried hard and gave it their all in the seven-game schedule but superior manpower and weight by the opposition told the story in the long run .... An example of the team's attitude took place at Boulder City, the teamis fifth game of the season. After taking four shut-outs in a row and trailing by four TD's, the XVarriors came back to record the school's first tallies on an 11-yard pass from Tom DeMar- co to Fritz Kreuzer and an 85-yard TD run on a kick-off by Gerry Booker .... The other two tal- lies the Warriors made came away from home against Brawley, Calif. Bob Smith, an end, hauled in both scores on passes from DeMarco. Place-kicker Allan Wilk made good on conver- sions after the first and third touchdowns .... Yes, the football team is Aiming for the Future, and with a harvest of 31 letterrnen back plus a big crop up from the junior varsity, the Warriors will be shooting for bigger and better things this fall.
