Western High School Goes to Washington i Jerold Matthews of Western High School, New Mexico's delegate to the 1950 session of Boys' Nation, is pictured with the nation's defense chiefs at the Pentagon in Washington, D. C. In the picture, left to right, are: jim Boswell of Texas and Sec. of Air Force Thomas Finletterg Sec. of Army Frank Pace and Charles Forsyth of Kansasg Former Sec. of Defense Louis johnson and john Borton of Ohiog and Sec. of Navy Francis P. Matthews and Jerold Matthews of New Mexico. Jerold, with jon Aderhold of Las Cruces, New Mexico's other delegate, and 94 other boys representing every state in the country spent one week in Washington at Boys' Nation during July, 1950. While in Washington the boys were received by the President of the United States and many other government officials. Boys' Nation is sponsored by the American Legion, and is part of the I.egion's citizenship training program for American youth.
