P R I E W 1958-1959 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE As we come to the end of the sports section and of the yearbook, a glimpse into next year's p ro s p e ct s and schedule for athletics at Western s e em s only fitting. In all s po rt s , an abundance of letterrnen, and rn any with varsity experience, emphasize a brightening future. As the Echo goes to press, definite plans for baseball have not been made so its schedule is omitted. However, football and basketball schedules are definite and a good season for both appears evident. Football, in its third season at Western and s e cond varsity season should become much stronger. And the six returning letter- men in b a s ke tb all will definitely help the Panthers toward a better record. Perhaps if everyone follows the motto below, Western' s chances will be better than ever! W illingness 1 nterest N ever-say-die attitude S pirit Sept. l Sept. 6 Sept. 12 Sept. 20 Sept. ,M ,rs an by xi., STUDENT MANAGERS BACK ROW: R. Shietze, D. Rea, D. Bowers FRONT ROW: J. Opincar, T. Lipinski, J. Hobson The boys pictured above are the ones, above all others, who deserve a word of recognition. For they are the ones who get most of the gripes, try to supply all d e sire s and needs, add words of encouragement, and take c are of equipment. They are the student managers. To be the first ones to arrive and the last ones to le ave is only one of the requirements. It's a tough job, but very, very rewarding. The summer baseball program was handled by David Rea, while in football, Roger Shietze, Tom Lipinski, and John Opincar we re the managers. In basketball, there were two managers for the varsity and reserves team, D avid Rea and Tom Lipinski. Freshman and eighth grade basketball were handled by Dennis Bowers and John Hobson, respectively. 5U 4 I ,Q ir! ' ,fy 12 X , . -4,5-.lf .-. tj f K cel
