A membership committee was formed to evaluate and judge the entries of those interested in being a part of this new organization: tho se accepted were named as the Art Club's charter members. In a later me eting the officers who were to help the Art Clubs' initial year, with the able and willing as sistanc e of Miss Carter, were chosen. They were Bruce Milburn, president: Pat Plummer, vice president: Carol DeFord, secretary: W.G. O'Neal, reporter: and Dan Patrick, treasurer. Fl lvl f,7lQ,, M7 L FUTURE TEACHERS OE AMERICAQQY2 A Future Teachers of America Club was o r gani zed at Western this year to encourage students who show an interest in teaching and to help them learn something about the profession before entering college. On February ll, the officers were installed and the club was officially chartered. The officers elected at the first of the year were D avid Rea, president, Shirley Miller, vice -p r e s i d e nt 3 Judy Catron, secretary -treasurer, Donna Rea, parliamentariang and Bruce Milburn, historian-librarian. Also, the club officially name d itself the Wilmer W. Lindley Future Teachers of America Club in honor of fo rme r County Superintendent Lindley who had done so much to promote better schools and better teachers in Howard County. With the excellent help of the club's advisor, Mr. Harrell, a good F. T. A. Club has been formed at Western. Much of this year was spent in planning and o rgani zing the club. The F. T. A. is a relatively new o r gani zation in the United States and our club is one of only 28 clubs recognized in the state of Indiana. The F. T. A. was well represented at both the district and state F. T. A. conventions held during the year. Perhaps this club illustrates the true Spirit of Western and in fact the spirit of any school better than other club s 3 for through the F. T. A., opportunities in teaching may present them- selves to the many students who will be needed as good teachers for the schools of tomorrow. FIRST ROW: D. Rea,S. Miller, J. Catron,D. Rea, B.
