Seasons Scores CLOSE ONES ll!! N The 1964-65 Rams finished second in one of the most tightly contested con- ference races ever staged inthe Little 8 . With the exception of two one point losses and another by a five point margin, the cagers could have kept the conference record unblemished for the second year in succession. Amongthe most memorable victories were the conference wins over co-champ Annawan and district winner Tam pic 0 plus the win over Walnut. Western's non- conference record was 8-2 which included a 5 win no loss mark against Blackhawk competition. The iron men senio r s Larry Frank, John Van Drew, Jeff Langford, Roger Marquis, and John Behrends started practically every game after the loss of Dick Marquis. Behrends and Marquis were All-conference s e 1 e c t i ons and paced the scoring d epartm ent along with John Van Drew who also was the number two re- bounder. Terry Pratt and Dan Morris were key reserves and earned their letters as juniors. John Behrends seta number of seasonal and cumulative rebounding and scoring records and Roger Marquis picked up the most recoveries and took the Free Throw Trophy with a 3753? average. Western's attack featureda pressing defensive which seemed to compensate for relative lack in height again st practically all opponents. The seasonal defensive average was 53.8 which was just shy of a new seasonal record. . . . . .
