The Heavyweight did pretty well this year with the guidance of coaches Funderberg and Strawbridge. They learned many of the basic skills involved in basketball and improved con- siderably as the year progressed. The Western Lightweight basketball team had a very impressive season this year compiling an 18-0 record. They also won the first place trophy for the Little Eight Lightweight Tourna- ment. Most of the games were very exciting and close, but the younger Rams combined skill and determination to win. 99

WINS FIRST ANNUAL TEACHER AWARD Mr. Harry Lehning was elected Teacher of the year. This was an honor devised by the student - council and carried out by vote of the entire stu- dent body. Mr. Lehning is very worthy of the title. His days are filled with activity. Mr. Lehning teaches five classes of math, is sponsor of The National Hon- or Society, is sponsor of the Varsity Club, is assistant coach in football and is the head coach in track. Congratulations to a fine teacher who typifies spirit--scholastically and athletically--at West- ern High School.
